Theft charges for stealing packages dismissed (Manhattan)

Lance’s client was arrested for stealing packages out of a package room in our client’s apartment building. After the police reviewed footage from video surveillance, they arrested our client and issued a desk appearance ticket for arraignment in criminal court. Our client contacted us for help and we defended the case on the grounds that the statutory requirement for proving an intent to steal was never met and the missing property was never found. After months of litigation in which the prosecutor was trying to secure a conviction, we accepted a deal where the charges would be completely dropped as long as our client stayed arrest-free and paid some money for the property that was allegedly stolen.
